The couple arrested for the crime of Aizarnazabal enter prison

The couple, a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, arrested for the murder of Donostiarra Aintzane Pujana in the Gipuzkoan town of Aizarnazabal, have entered prison after declaring before the judge who is handling the case, the Department of Security has reported this Friday.

The lifeless body of Aintzane Pujana was located at around 11 a.m. on January 4 by some workers who were working in an area of bushes near the Urola River as it passed through Aizarnazabal.

The Ertzaintza detained these two people on the morning of Tuesday, January 12, in the town of Aizarnazabal, where they were temporarily residing, as alleged perpetrators of the murder of Aintzane Pujana.

The detainees were transferred to the Urola-Kosta police station and, this morning, they have been brought to justice before the Investigating Judge of the investigation, the head of the Investigative Court number 1 of Azpeitia, who has ordered the entry into preventive prison of both of them.

The investigation points, according to Security, that this homicide and the subsequent abandonment of the body could materialize during the early hours of the morning of Saturday, January 2, 2021.

The main hypothesis that the investigation handles is that the trigger for the aggression could be a strong argument between the victim and the couple that began at around 11:30 p.m. on January 1, 2020. It is believed that the stabbing occurred in the house where they resided.

The team that has conducted this investigation handles the hypothesis that, after allegedly committing the homicide and abandoning the body, those now detained were circulating aboard their vehicle through different points of the Gipuzkoan coast with the aim of getting rid of clothing and other effects that could link them to the homicide.

Then a routine identification carried out by an Ertzaintza Citizen Protection patrol in a place located between the towns of Zumaia and Getaria prevented the suspects from throwing away the objects they were carrying.

Despite this identification, the two alleged perpetrators continued to move through different towns in the interior of Gipuzkoa during the morning of January 2, 2020, including Tolosa.

The investigation has concluded that, once in Tolosa, the couple purchased several cleaning products in a supermarket in the aforementioned town, such as bleach, ammonia, paper napkins and wet wipes, which they later used to carry out a thorough cleaning of the tourism in which they were traveling and which was used to transport the victim’s body to the place where he was finally found, two days later, in the Etxabe neighborhood of Aizarnazabal.

In the same way, there are indications of the carrying out of cleaning tasks by the detainees of the different rooms of the apartment with the aim of destroying any evidence of the crime.

The Ertzaintza has stressed that the people identified in that same rural accommodation on the occasion of a party on New Year’s Eve have nothing to do with these events.
