To prison a young man of 19 for stealing a gold chain from a disabled in Mataró
The Mossos d’Escuadra in Mataró arrested a 19-year-old Moroccan national last Saturday, accused of violent robbery of a disabled man. According to the police, the events occurred around 10 in the morning, when the robbery was reported by two young people in the heart of the Catalan town.
The robbery occurred in the middle of the public highway in Mataró. A man with a wheelchair was walking through the well-known Plaza de la Pepa Maca, when he was assaulted by two young men who managed to steal a gold chain with three medals he was wearing. The man, with reduced mobility, could do nothing to prevent the robbery, and had to alert the authorities.
Luckily, a group of witnesses managed to hold one of the thieves until the police arrived. In the agents’ own search, they found the three medals stolen from the man in the wheelchair, hidden in one of the socks. Therefore, the young man was detained by the police at the same time.
The thief was brought to justice on Sunday, and testified before the Mataró court pending a formal decision by the judge. The investigation remains open as the other person involved in the robbery could not be located.
